Three Ways Around the Law

Posted 11/06/2008 - 19:59 by Noel Rude

Christians are clever when it comes to wiggling around the Law — but all the confusion evaporates when we demolish three fundamental errors in regard to the first three days of creation.  The first error is to see the Law as dispensational and not creational, the second error is to limit the Law to

It's National Redemption!

It helps to see the redemption as occurring on two levels – individually and nationally.  Most of prophecy is concerned with national redemption. As our teacher used to say – we have not been call...

Paul's Marvelous Midrash

Rabbi Shaul’s letters are difficult (2Pt 3:15-16), and apart from their original Jewish context they are easily twisted to say what they do not say. The letter to the Galatians, highly favored among antinomians, appears to abolish the Torah in favor of a new ecclesiastical order centered among the Gentiles. A case in point is the allegory or midrash in chapter 4 (Gal 4:22-31). Rather shockingly it seems to compare God’s covenant to Hagar and the Jewish nation to Hagar’s offspring Ishmael.

Recently while lunching with some people I greatly admire, the subject of Genesis came up.  I proceeded to mention that Genesis allows for a much older cosmos than the time frame provid...

The Kingdom of God and the Daughters of Adam

The account of the Flood begins (Gn 6:1-2): “And it came to pass, when men (הָאָדָם) began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God (בְּנֵי הָאֱלֹהִים) saw the daughters of men (

Have already talked about Adam and Enosh — the two fathers who head the biblical genealogies and whose names mean ‘mankind’.  And after today’s Torah reading (פרשת ויגש P...

Getting Past the Trinity

Was thinking (yes, I know, it’s dangerous) how that, even though there was error in our particular Puritan past that’s hard to unlearn now, we might begin by acknowledging how much truth the...
